Prescription Eye Protection
Under regulation 4 of the Personal Protective Equipment at work Regulations 1992, employers are required by law to provide suitable PPE for employees whose health and safety is exposed in the workplace. In areas where a hazard to the eyes exists workers are required to be provided with and wear suitable safety eye protection.
In addition to the potential risks to employees from flying objects, employers are required to provide those employees who operate VDU screens and who require prescriptive eye wear with appropriate spectacles. These are not safety spectacles however their lenses are designed to adjust an employees vision to the intermediate distance found when operating a VDU screen.
Partnering with your Eurosafe PPE supplier ensures that you are provided with a no nonsense service that offers your employees stylish safety and occupational eyewear specially tailored to their personal needs.
The first step in setting up a safety eyewear programme is to contact your Eurosafe supply partner who will discuss with you your requirements and obligations. He will assist with the selection of appropriate lens types and frame styles and describe how best to make the service work for you.

The most common method of supply is to have a quantity of prescription order forms printed with your details on them. When an employee qualifies for prescription eyewear you will provide them with one of these forms, which they will take to the optician of their choice. The optician will carry out his examination and complete the details on the form before forwarding it to the laboratory for preparation of the spectacles. The laboratory will prepare the spectacles and return them to the optician, who will contact your employee to arrange a suitable fitting appointment.Your Eurosafe supply partner will collect all of the charges and assemble one invoice for payment.
The alternative to your employees visiting their own optician when numbers allow, is to arrange a visiting optician who will attend your facility to carry out his examination. The benefit of this service means that you have much better control over the variable cost element of the optician’s fees.Your Eurosafe supply partner will provide you with full details of how this service works.
